What I'm doing now

Where I am

I'm writing this update on 15th September 2025 from Bologna, on a glorious sunny day. I'm one week into a ten week trip: for the past few years, I've only been able to visit for a few days at a time, but last month I was granted the right to stay longer (via a "permesso di soggiorno") by the Italian government, so I can finally circumvent the Brexit-imposed travel restrictions to spend much more time with my kids.

What I'm working on

I'm in the midst of completing the CSRD-compliant Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) functionality of HiRO — the Holistic Impact, Risk and Opportunity management dashboard that we've been developing for the last 18 months at Transition Agency. It's an absolute game-changer, reducing the effort required to complete a robust and credible DMA by 100x.

Last week I accepted a new role as Director of Strategic Partnerships with COTERC, a Canadian-based non-profit which protects tropical biodiversity through research and education, centred around its field station in Costa Rica.

COTERC does some fantastic work, and is already largely self-sufficient. But with a bit of extra funding the organisation has the potential to massively scale up its positive impact, and I'm looking forward to playing my part in making that happen.

When I'm not working

I'm enjoying long walks by the river with my whippet while listening to Italian podcasts to brush up on my language skills, squeezing in occasional Doctor Who episodes with my daughter whenever her homework schedule allows, and constantly groaning from the aches and pains brought on by trips to the gym with my son, where we're both trying desperately to outcompete each other on the weight machines while pretending we're not even trying. :-)
